Do's and Don'ts

To receive reimbursement of the costs of the regular yard work and regular house work that you hire others to do while you are too hurt to do it yourself, bring or mail us your yard work and house work receipts or bills.

If you were employed when the accident happened, and if your doctor orders you "off-the-job" in writing (or if you were a full-time homemaker and if your doctor orders you "off-the-job" in writing), and if you hire a lawn service or maid service to do the regular yard work and regular house work that you would have done yourself if you had not gotten hurt, then bring or mail your receipts or bills (for that yard work and house work) to us, so we can send them by certified mail to the appropriate insurance company for reimbursement (payment) of 100% of the amount charged (except for any illegal overcharges that nobody has to pay) after the deductible amount is met. We will use these receipts (or bills) to prove the amount of money that you paid to others (or are obligated to pay to others) for doing your regular yard work and regular house work for you during (on) the same days that your doctor had ordered you "off-the-job" in writing (or ordered you not to do your yard work and house work in writing).  The insurance company will not advance you money up front to pay for your regular yard work or house work that has not already been done.  But, you are not usually required to prove that you already paid for that yard work and house work in order to be reimbursed (paid) for yard work and house work that was already done, so long as you are obligated to pay for that work that has already been done.  This is because the law requires the insurance company to pay for "expenses reasonably incurred" (not necessarily already "paid") for yard work and house work during the same days you are under doctor's written orders to stay "off-the-job" (even if you have not actually paid for work that has already been done).  You must also bring us your doctor's written orders to stay "off-the-job" (the same paper described in paragraph #12 above).  You must provide us with both your yard work and house work receipts and your doctor's written orders to stay "off-the-job" to receive a check for the costs of your yard work and house work.  You must provide us with both of these two forms to be reimbursed (paid) for yard work and house work.  The insurance company will not reimburse you for yard work and/or house work for up to 30 days after they receive your regular yard work and/or regular house work receipts and your doctor's written orders to stay "off-the-job".  If (like most people) you have a $1,000.00 deductible that applies to your medical bill, wage loss, mileage, or regular yard work and regular house work claims, you will not receive reimbursement of 100% of any regular yard work and regular house work expenses for several weeks, because it takes that long for 80% of your medical expenses to exceed the $1,000.00 deductible amount.  Once that happens, you usually get paid your yard work and house work reimbursement right away.  Your insurance rates will not go up because of your yard work and house work reimbursement claim (unless you were at fault).  Florida Law '626.9541 (o)(3)(4)(5).  We do not charge you a fee for this.  Our fees are based on the amount of any settlement later in the case.
