Do's and Don'ts

Exception 3 (to benefit from "capped fees" as to that portion of your medical bills that exceed $10,000).

If your medical bills will be a lot more than the $10,000.00 you have available in your regular auto "No-Fault" (P.I.P.) insurance policy, and if your (non-auto) medical insurance (or government-type benefits) "caps" the rates the doctor or hospital can charge you, then using your regular (non-auto) medical insurance or similar benefits for that portion of your medical bills that exceed $10,000 could save you a lot of money (when compared to the "letter of protection" alternative for bills that exceed $10,000). This is because some non-auto medical insurance companies negotiate "capped" rates with doctors and hospitals for medical services that are much less than the doctor or hospital would charge others for the same medical service.  So, even though you must pay your regular non-auto medical insurance company (or government agency) back, that "capped" amount that you must pay back can be much less than what you would have owed on the same bill to the same doctor or hospital without benefit of the "caps" (as result of a "letter of protection" alternative for example).
