Do's and Don'ts

When will I know whether I have a case?

Usually six to eight months after the accident.  This is because (unless you were paralyzed, dismembered, or severely scarred) you do not have a "case" unless and until your doctor first determines that you do have a case.  But, your doctor cannot make this medical determination until you heal as well as you will ever heal (which usually takes six to eight months after the date treatment begins).  If, at the end of the six to eight month treatment/healing period, your doctor determines that you have left-over injuries that did not completely heal, then he or she will be of the opinion that you are qualified to be paid for your left-over, unhealed injuries.  (Of course, the other side will have a different opinion, but if your doctor backs you up, you at least have a good, fighting chance.)
