FIRM OVERVIEW ATTORNEYS PRACTICE AREAS RESULTS AUTO ACCIDENT INFORMATION DO'S AND DON'TS CONTACT US

After your doctor permanently discharges you from all medical care, call your lawyer to tell him (do not ask him) what is going on with your case.

Contrary to what most clients believe, the accident does not give you a "case" (the instant right to receive more money than your expenses).  Instead, only your doctor's (future) post-discharge medical report describing any unhealed injuries you might then have at that future time, if any, will give you a case.  So, if you call your lawyer to find out what's going on with your case (before your doctor permanently discharges you from all medical care), your lawyer's answer will always be the same, "Nothing".  This is because you will not have a "case" until then for something to be going on with. Because you will not have a "case" until after your doctor permanently discharges you from all medical care, your lawyer will not do anything, the other side will not do anything, and there will be nothing to tell you, except to keep on going to your doctor.  The first thing that happens in your case is when your doctor orders you not to come back to his or her office.  This is called a "medical discharge".  Because your lawyer does not go to your doctor, your lawyer will not know when your doctor permanently discharges you from all medical care.  Only you will know that (because only you, not your lawyer, goes to your doctor).  So, it is your job to tell your lawyer when this medical discharge occurs.  Only then, after your doctor permanently discharges you from all medical care (once you have a "case") will your lawyer start the legal work on your case, and only then will your lawyer have something to tell you about your future case.  So, the first time you will talk to your lawyer about your case is when you call your lawyer to tell him (not ask him) what's going on with your future case.  Before your doctor permanently discharges you from all medical care, your lawyer will have nothing to tell you.
