To start with, you will get to keep all the money that we already got
for you up front (from which we were not paid anything). This up-front
money includes all of the money you already got for medical bills, lost
wages, mileage allowance, yard work and house work (not to mention,
where applicable, towing, storage, repairs, total loss, rental and
"loss-of-value"). Your settlement check is not all "profit". So, you
will not get to keep all of it for yourself. Remember, while your
settlement check includes money that you will get to keep for your
injuries (for "pain and suffering"), it always includes money that you
owe to your lawyers, and usually includes money that you still owe to
doctors, hospitals, ambulances, the MRI center, and sometimes the
settlement check includes money you owe back to medical insurance
companies and government agencies (which already paid some or all of
your medical bills). We always try to save you settlement
money by making deals with people you owe money to (such as your
doctors or your non-auto medical insurance company) to pay them less
then you really owe them (to help you keep more settlement money for
yourself). You alone receive all of those savings that we
generate in this way, not us. But, except for those savings we generate
for you by negotiating down the amount you have to pay others from the
settlement money, you will not be able to keep settlement money that
really belongs to others who are also supposed to be paid out of the
settlement funds.
