If you have vehicle rental insurance on your own auto insurance policy.
We recommend that you use it to pay for your vehicle rental to avoid
delays and to avoid the "run-around". If you have rental vehicle
insurance, call your own auto insurance company "claims office". Your
auto insurance company claims representative will tell you what to do
in order to get a rental vehicle. If you have rental insurance on your
own auto insurance policy, then your insurance company will usually pay
a certain specified amount per day up to a limit of so many days, no
matter what the actual costs of the rental vehicle are. Some newer
policies pay 80% of the cost of a rental, up to a certain dollar
amount. Either way, you have to pay everything else, at least in the
short term. Afterwards you and/or your insurer may seek reimbursement
from the other side. Your insurance rates will not go up for a vehicle
rental claim (unless you were at fault). Florida Law #626.9541
(o)(3)(4)(5).
